Enlightenment’s Latest Release: Stability Boost and Exciting Features

  • by

The newly launched version 0.26.0 of the lightweight window manager, compositor, and desktop shell brings a host of improvements and exciting features.

Despite years of development, Enlightenment has yet to reach version 1. However, for users seeking a unique and customizable desktop experience, the recent release of version 0.26.0 is noteworthy.

This update primarily focuses on enhancing stability to elevate the overall user experience, with numerous bug fixes. Additionally, a few compelling features have been introduced.

One notable feature is the inclusion of a Display Data Channel (DDC) setting for backlight configurations, improving screen brightness. Other enhancements include larger task previews, an improved open application overview, a watermark for Window Manager Mode (indicating the experimental wl mode), file action support in EFM (Enlightenment File Manager), and integration of logind lock/unlock Dbus APIs.

The update places a significant emphasis on settings security, incorporating support for the new eet disk sync API. This ensures the proper and secure storage of Enlightenment settings and configurations.

To enhance performance and system reliability, a new watchdog thread has been added and is now enabled by default. This addition effectively manages mainloop hangs.

While this release may not introduce groundbreaking features, the collective improvements contribute to a more responsive, reliable, and efficient desktop environment.

Enthusiasts of Enlightenment will find this point release enjoyable. However, it may not be immediately available in your favorite distribution repository. Note that this release requires EFL version 1.27.0 or later, necessitating manual building of Enlightenment 0.26.0.
